Google supporting remote work
With multiple reports mostly supporting the positive sides of remote work, high-profile companies announcing making remote work a more permanent part of their work culture in some way, Google has now announced it is developing new features to help.

The tech giant has said that it will add new features and improve the existing ones to make remote working easier for people. 
Google has said, ‘With smart canvas and innovations…we’re making it easy to bring the voices and faces of your team directly into the collaboration experience, to help people share ideas and solve problems together from anywhere’

What are the new remote work friendly features?
Google has introduced ‘smart canvas’, and has described it as ‘next evolution of collaboration for Google Workspace’

Google Docs

Google Docs will be upgraded with multiple features:

  • @-mentions will show additional information like the person’s location, job title, and contact information.
  • Smart chips in docs for recommended files and meetings
  •  Checklists will allow you to assign tasks to team members. These tasks will show up in Google Tasks.
  • New document template for capturing meeting notes will automatically

Google Meet
Features announced for Google meet include:

  • Bringing Meet directly to Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Team members can present their work wherever they are working, doc, sheet or slide.
  • Introducing more languages in the live caption and translations feature

Google Workspace
The features here are:

  • Warnings about offensive words and language
  • Formula suggestions to make working on Sheets easier for novices

The announcement of these updates comes a few days after Google announced it will be relaxing its remote work policy. The company announced that some employees will be allowed to work from home permanently. Their current plan is to work with a hybrid model with 60% employees working from office, 20% from new locations and 20% from home.
